SMTEC FootSwitch - Gait analysis

Gait analysis, data acquisition and processing system

SMTEC FootSwitch charasteristics

SMTEC FootSwitch is an innovative device which measures with high precision (to 1/100th of a second) the time one’s foot is in contact with the ground (stance time) when walking a short distance (Gait analysis parameters).

SMTEC FootSwitch uses calculation software to measure a person’s gait characteristics by analysing the regularity of steps and the temporal symmetry of gait.

Matérial

SMTEC FootSwitch is a system composed of soft, sturdy soles fitted with two contact sensors, a belt-worn electronic control unit, and SMTEC FootSwitch software.

Communication between the soles and the electronic control unit is by wire; communication between the electronic control unit and the computer is by wireless technology.

Applications

SMTEC FootSwitch is essentially a research tool for movement analysis laboratories.

Its high level of precision enables it to rival the sophisticated video image analysis systems and multi-sensor measuring mats.
The user-friendliness of this device and its very low cost compared with other solutions enables its use on a routine, simple and systematic basis.

It also helps sports medicine centres to analyse, directly at the training sites, the gait characteristics of athletes in rehabilitation following an injury.
